Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how you first came in contact with Orange Business?
My name is Belén Sprenger, I am an Argentinean living in Switzerland since 2019. I first learned about Orange Business through a colleague who recommended the company to me, saying it was a great environment for professional growth. Though I already had some experience in business intelligence, this is my first job in Switzerland as I aimed to learn German before starting to work here. Since joining Orange Business, my experience has been very positive as continuous learning is important for me and I have had the opportunity to delve into technologies completely new to me.
Can you tell us a bit about your position as a Business Intelligence & Data Consultant, what are your responsibilities and what missions are you currently working on?
Primarily, I act as a Data Engineer, focusing on the backend of Business Intelligence solutions. Occasionally, I engage with frontend solutions as well, although it is not my primary focus. My work mainly involves modeling and developing the Data Warehouse. This is something that suits me well as I am an analytical person who enjoys working with e.g. SQL as it is a language that is all about logic.
Currently, I am deeply engaged in two pivotal projects leveraging Microsoft technologies. We utilize Azure Data Factory for seamless data integration, Azure SQL Database Managed Instance for robust data warehousing, Tabular Model for dynamic data modeling, and Power BI for insightful data visualization. Our CI/CD processes are streamlined through Visual Studio, Azure DevOps, and GIT. I have worked dedicated to these projects since joining the company, and one of them involves collaboration with colleagues from Digital Services, Orange Business in Geneva, which is a great opportunity.
What interests you the most about your work?
I appreciate that my role gives me the ability to transform data into actionable insights for decision-making and construct BI solutions. Beyond the technical aspects, I appreciate that my work challenges me to develop both my analytical and communication skills.
What education and experience did you have prior to joining Orange Business?
My journey into Business Intelligence started during my university studies, where I discovered my interest in the field and that it was where I wanted to develop my career. Before joining Orange Business, I had four years’ experience as a Functional Analyst specializing in IFS ERP, developing skills in SQL while creating reports for management. I also spent three years as an ETL Developer/Business Intelligence Analyst, mainly utilizing Pentaho´s suite tools (PDI, PRD, CDE). Since joining Orange Business, I have delved deeper into Microsoft technologies, which I have enjoyed as it has broadened my skillset.
What is the latest training you have taken?
My most recent training was on Power BI. With no prior experience with this technology, I was eager to better understand its fundamentals. I am currently preparing for the Azure Data Engineer Certification (DP-203) and continue my German studies for my personal development, currently studying on a C1 level.
What do you personally enjoy the most about working at Orange Business, the Digital Services business line?
What I love about working here is the emphasis on continuous learning. We have great opportunities to explore various technologies and advance professionally. The business is very receptive to our interests and facilitates our wants and needs to ensure we are happy and satisfied, which is very appreciated! Moreover, I also value the flexibility, providing us with a good work-life balance between our personal and professional life.
