Name: Kaushik Parasuraman Sainath Krishna
Position: Senior Consultant – Senior Business Analyst
Worked at Orange Business since: October 2023
Based: Luxembourg
Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how you first came in contact with Orange Business?
My name is Kaushik and I first came into contact with Orange Business through a good friend of mine who had been with the company for some time. He reached out to me about an opportunity to join. Although my background was in a slightly different area, joining Orange Business presented an exciting chance to explore a new field that aligned with my interests.
What influenced your decision to join Orange Business?
My decision came from a professional perspective. I have a background in risk management, particularly in regulatory and methodological aspects of the field. I wanted to further my understanding of how these dimensions were ultimately implemented and how they impacted business processes. While I had touched upon these areas briefly in previous roles, I had never worked on them extensively. When my friend reached out, and I realized this role would allow me to delve deeper into these topics, I was intrigued. I saw it as an opportunity to grow within e.g. data management and ESG topics, to build expertise in this area, and that ultimately motivated me to take the leap.
Can you tell us a bit about your role as a Senior Business Analyst Consultant, what are your responsibilities?
In my role, I work closely with customers to support them with classic business analysis tasks such as data analysis, understanding processes, interacting with different stakeholders, identifying technical requirements, and creating use cases etc. Broadly speaking, my focus is on understanding business processes and how value can be derived from the extensive data available to banks. We often have access to a lot of raw data, and my job involves figuring out how to transform it to deliver value to the business.
This role is more hands-on compared to what I have done in the past. While working with data, it is crucial to remain compliant, and my previous experience with regulatory and methodological processes has been very beneficial in this regard.
Can you tell us a bit about the current project you are working on?
I am working on the same project I began with when I joined Orange Business, which is for a multilateral development bank. My role involves supporting the modernization of their existing solution, used for risk-based pricing. We are updating the old legacy system and developing logic to improve processes and enhance the user experience.
What I appreciate about this project is the variety it offers. Some days, I focus on data analysis; on others, I engage with stakeholders or handle documentation. It is a dynamic environment that keeps the work engaging and challenging.
What do you enjoy the most about working as a Senior Business Analyst Consultant?
I really enjoy the opportunity to continuously learn and deepen my knowledge, complementing my earlier experience on the more regulatory and theoretical aspects of risk management. I work with a better understanding of why I am doing certain things, beyond the scope of the project because of my earlier experience.
What skills do you believe are important for this job?
Strong communication and soft skills are essential. As a Business Analyst, you need to communicate and come to a mutual understanding with various stakeholders, and being able to communicate effectively is crucial.
On the technical side, the required knowledge depends on the specific area you are working on, but having a certain level of technical understanding is important. Many conversations with business stakeholders are fairly technical, so being able to follow and contribute is vital. Analytical skills are also key, and proficiency with tools like Microsoft Office, SQL, and other data analytics tools can go a long way.
What is the latest training you have done?
I recently completed the FRM (Financial Risk Management) certification provided by GARP in November 2024. It is in risk management, testing the knowledge and understanding of a candidate on the tools and understanding applied in the domain. It will add value to the current project I’m working on and I’m glad that I cleared it.
What do you personally enjoy the most about working at Orange Business, the Digital Services business line?
What stands out to me about working at Orange Business is how approachable everyone is, both professionally and personally. If you have an idea or suggestion, it is genuinely considered, and time is taken to assess whether it is feasible and a good idea. I find the organization flat, at least here in Luxembourg, where I am based. There is a close-knit, intimate atmosphere, and people take the time to get to know you better as an individual and it is these small things that make a difference. This sense of appreciation and human connection is something I value highly.
