My name is Mattis, I am 28 years old and originally from Tønsberg in Norway. I have always been fascinated by computers and figuring out how things work, and it was clear to me from an early age that I wanted to study computer science. My journey with Orange Business began when I was contacted on LinkedIn about a position in the Public Cloud Delivery department. After speaking with some of my future colleagues, learning about exciting customer cases, and visiting the Økern Portal office, I quickly realized Orange Business would be a great fit for me. The interview process was informal yet professional, and I felt like I had a real chance to showcase my skills and knowledge.
What was it that impacted your decision to join Orange Business?

Can you tell us a bit about your position as a Cloud Devops Engineer, what are your responsibilities, which tasks, projects and technologies are you working with?
In my position, I focus on developing and maintaining digital infrastructure. A key part of my work involves writing infrastructure as code, using tools like Terraform and Bicep. I work with hyperscalers like Microsoft Azure, implementing CI/CD pipelines to streamline development and deployment processes. Platform engineering is another central part of my role, where I work with Kubernetes, Kustomize, Helm, and GitOps using FluxCD and ArgoCD. Additionally, I work with hybrid cloud architecture, ensuring seamless networking between Orange’s sovereign cloud data centers and Microsoft’s data centers across Europe. The tasks and technologies can vary depending on the project, but there is always a focus on reliability, scalability, and security.
Can you tell us a bit about your current project?
I am currently working on a project for BankID BankAxept, which provides secure digital authentication and processes card transactions for the population in Norway. It is a critical service used by millions of citizens daily, and it is an exciting project to work on, contributing to something so essential for the country’s digital infrastructure.

What I enjoy the most is the blend of autonomy and responsibility. I have the freedom to make decisions and take ownership of projects, which is both empowering and motivating. It is also rewarding to work on projects that have a tangible impact, like BankID BankAxept, knowing that millions of people rely on the services we help build. On top of that, I appreciate the culture here at Orange Business as it is very collaborative and supportive. My colleagues are always willing to share knowledge, and there is a strong focus on continuous learning and innovation.
What education and experience did you have prior to joining Orange Business?
I hold an integrated master's degree in computer science from NTNU in Trondheim. Throughout my studies, I built a theoretical foundation across the abstraction levels of computing, from programming, networking and operating systems to computer hardware, electrical circuits, mathematics, and physics. The education provided me with a comprehensive understanding of how computing systems function, from the underlying hardware to high-level software applications.
I have also accumulated valuable practical experience through internships and full-time roles, initially focusing on backend development and gradually transitioning into Cloud, DevOps, and platform engineering. These experiences enabled me to apply my academic knowledge in real-life scenarios, enhancing my skills in architecting, building, and maintaining modern digital infrastructure. This combination of academic and hands-on experience has equipped me with the expertise I need for my role at Orange Business.
What was the latest training you attended?
The most recent course I attended was a Primo course, where I learned about in-house software used to deploy resources to Orange’s data centers. We also visited one of the data centers in Oslo, which was an insightful opportunity to see how these centers operate firsthand.
